The highs and lows of owning horses were experienced in
2009 at Roseglen Farm. We experienced the heartbreaking
loss of one of our most promising dressage horses,
Roseglen Festivale, a 2yo warmblood gelding by Fidertanz
out of a Dutchman mare. Much thanks goes to the many
well wishers who followed us through the heartbreaking 6
weeks of caring for Freddie, with special mention to
Chris and Gary Hartigan, John Kohnke and the team at
Tony’s Practice in Woodend. But the festivities started
upon the arrival of the first of Hilkens Nougat Creams
foals.
We were elated at the arrival of the first German Riding
Pony foal by Hilkens Nougat Cream out of the RP/ TB mare
Clifford Park Rockstar. Sent away to Tremon Stud to foal
down due to work commitments, Roxy was away for one
night before presenting us with the lovely Roseglen Neo.
This young man has really needs to be seen to be
believed. He has taken the best from both dam and sire
and the movement is mind blowing. He is certain to be a
big star in the pony dressage ring, yet so pretty he
wouldn’t look out of place in the show ring. Roxy has
been rebred to Nougat for a 2010 foal.
The second foal to arrive was Roseglen Parisa (Ashtan
Park Pearl x Hilkens Nougat Cream). Pearl never fails to
impress with her progeny. Last year, she gave us a
superb black colt by Hilkens Nougat Cream and this year
has outdone herself again, presenting a beautiful
buckskin filly. Parisa has been sold to a rider in
Victoria who hopes to campaign her in pony dressage in
years to come. Pearl has been bred to the GRP stallion
Don Philino for a 2010 foal.
The third foal to arrive was Roseglen Summertime, a
beautiful buckskin filly out of our WB mare Blackall
Park Seattle. Summer was born 29 days premature and
unable to stand to feed. After 10 days of bottle feeding
and a long trip to Goulbourn Valley, Summer has joined
our darling Freddie in the evergreen paddock. Hopefully
this is the last of the sad news for Roseglen Farm for
the next 20 odd years – I don’t think our hearts can
take another loss.
The fourth foal to arrive is Dangles, a strapping big
colt by Danbird (TB) out of our mare How’s Art (TB).
Although not a pony and never destined to set foot in
the pony dressage ring, this colt is unbelievable. Born
weighing in at 70kilo’s, he is a thumping big boy, with
exceptionally long legs. He has muscles where muscles
shouldn’t be in such a young horse and strangely enough,
he has the movement to be a wonderful dressage horse.
However, we will syndicate this young colt and aim to
race him as a 3yo (no 2yo racing in this house thanks!)

The final foal for the year decided to greet us 21 days
premature, fortunately with no issues. Roseglen Sagara
is a buckskin filly, out of Kolbeach Sands by Nougie.
This little girl is showing a lot of Welsh blood, with
the dinkiest little head and ears you could imagine.
Once again, another beautifully conformed, well
tempered, elastic moving filly. This was a much
anticipated foal as Kolbeach Sands was on loan for a
season from Penmain Stud. Kolbeach Sands will be
returned to Penmain Stud this season in foal to Nougie.
Sagara has been sold to the wonderful Kristy Jarvis of
Dynamik Stallions, home of the imported German Riding
Pony stallions, Don Philino and Top Der Da.
April
saw the start of Mare registrations in Germany and the
start of the Mare shows and Performance Tests. We are
pleased to announce our filly, Sweet Belladonna, has
been accepted as a breeding mare with Weser Ems and has
started her training for the mare shows with the
wonderful Timo and Julia Coldewey from Gestuet
Kastanienhof. It is planned Belladonna will be bred to
the well performed Kastanienhof stallion, FS Cracker
Jack (Champion Deluxe x Dornik B) and will remain in
Germany for a final year, before being imported with
foal at foot and in utero in 2011/ 12.
2010 has seen some major changes at Roseglen Farm. We
are soon relocating to our new farm in Pipers Creek,
Kyneton. The fencing is due to start shortly, the house
is nearly liveable and the horses and dogs will be ready
to move in. The most exciting change at Roseglen Farm
has been the welcoming of Scarlett Jane in March, our
beautiful little girl. They say that foals are the best
time wasters, well I think our Scarlett is!
Nougat’s training is continuing under the watchful eye
of Manolo Mendez. Many thanks go to Chantelle Matthews
who has taken over the ride on Nougat whilst we have
been out of action.
As winter starts to grace us with frosty mornings and
dark afternoons, the ponies are all having a rest with
an aim to come back into work Spring time. And with
Spring, brings the much anticipated new arrivals. |
